Tag Care

All Salty Dog tags are made from nickel silver or brass. While these metals do not rust, they will naturally tarnish due to the elements and your pet's unique oils/fur.

Always rinse your tags with fresh water and wipe dry after being exposed to salt water or chlorine. Failure to do so may result in corrosion over time.

Never attach a leash to the split ring as they will unravel resulting in a lost tag.

I highly recommend checking rings weekly for any stretching or bending. If you see this, replace your rings immediately.

To further prevent lost tags I punch my holes larger than average in order to have a direct connection to Nite-Ize Micro Locking clips. I do not sell these in store but they can be found on Amazon in packs of 2.

To remove tarnish you can use any mild polishing agent meant for brass or nickel silver.

My favorite is Cape Cod Polishing cloths paired with a microfiber cloth to wipe away the residue.

To refill impressions, simply use a sharpie, let dry, and wipe excess gently with a small amount of rubbing alcohol.

Be sure to rinse with water immediately after to prevent the ink from "bleeding".

Pat dry and your tag is good to go!

I also now offer a tag care kit that comes with a mini sharpie, ultra fine steel wool, pro polish pad, and instructions to polish and refill.
